Raising a child is no joke. It’s something that requires years of dedication and effort. When you have a child, the first thing that’s going to change are your priorities. Suddenly, it is no longer just yourself that you are working for but now your child too.
Your finances take a major hit because of all the child rearing-related expenses that arise. You need to buy them special food, clothing and baby accessories like a car-seat or cot. When they grow up a bit, you’ll need to save money to enroll them in school & university. You need to pay for the clothes they wear, the laptop they need and of course the mobile that they just have to have.
Everything about a child would probably mean financial sacrifice on the part of the parent, that’s why a little help from the government through Child Tax Credits is very much welcome.
The Child Tax Credits benefit can be claimed by parents on a child only if the child is under 16 years of age, or under 20 if they are enrolled in universities and training courses that have been previously approved by the HMRC.
